OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16 confirmed for OnePlus users
OnePlus Confirms Android 16-Based OxygenOS 16 Rollout
OnePlus has officially confirmed that OxygenOS 16, its next major software update, will be based on Android 16. The company revealed that the stable version will launch globally on October 16, 2025, beginning with India. This announcement marks one of the most anticipated Android rollouts for OnePlus users, promising deeper AI integration, smoother design, and improved system performance.
OxygenOS 16 continues OnePlus’s tradition of balancing speed, minimalism, and customization. The update aims to refine user experience while integrating Google’s latest Gemini AI system at the core. This new AI hub, named “Mind Space,” will serve as a central area for managing content, notes, screenshots, and other personal data. Users can interact with Mind Space to generate responses, summaries, or reminders through the Gemini-powered interface, marking a step toward a smarter, more personalized Android experience.
OnePlus has also revamped the visual and functional design of OxygenOS 16. The user interface has been reworked with fluid animations, rounder icons, and a smoother touch response inspired by a “Liquid Glass” effect. A new Always-On Display mode will allow deeper customization with more data widgets, battery-efficient rendering, and real-time updates. The redesigned notification shade and app overview layout are built to ensure faster transitions and a cleaner visual hierarchy, making multitasking more natural and efficient.

Performance and optimization remain at the heart of this release. OnePlus claims OxygenOS 16 introduces a “zero-lag” system engine designed to manage background apps and multitasking without performance drops. Gaming mode has been enhanced to deliver consistent frame rates and lower power consumption, while RAM management has been restructured to maintain faster app switching even under heavy workloads. The system also features improved thermal control for prolonged gaming and media sessions, addressing user concerns from previous updates.
Security and privacy have received significant upgrades as part of Android 16’s foundation. Users will now have access to new features like Identity Check, Advanced Protection, and Permission Guard, allowing more control over app tracking and data sharing. A predictive back gesture system has been added, offering smoother transitions between apps and better gesture recognition. OnePlus has also introduced an AI-driven “Smart Privacy Manager” that suggests privacy settings based on individual usage behavior, aligning with the company’s vision of offering intelligent personalization.
The rollout plan will start with the newest flagship, the OnePlus 15, which will ship with OxygenOS 16 out of the box. Several recent devices, including the OnePlus 13 series, OnePlus 12, Nord 3, Nord 4, and the latest OnePlus Pad models, are expected to receive the update through over-the-air installation later this year. Beta testing will begin in select regions before the full release to ensure stability across devices. The company has yet to confirm a complete list of supported models, but the update is expected to reach most premium and upper mid-range devices launched in the past two years.
OnePlus is positioning OxygenOS 16 as not just another version update but a major shift toward an AI-centric ecosystem. The integration of Gemini AI, smarter security options, and enhanced customization reflects the growing importance of user-centered design in mobile software. As OnePlus continues to evolve within the global Android market, OxygenOS 16 is expected to play a central role in defining how users interact with both their phones and AI-driven digital environments.
With a confirmed release date and a clear focus on intelligence, design, and performance, OxygenOS 16 marks one of the most significant updates in OnePlus’s software journey. The rollout in India will serve as the initial stage before expanding globally, ensuring users worldwide can experience the next evolution of OxygenOS built firmly on Android 16’s foundation.
